Peter K. Parker

Candidate for Board Member, Compton Community College District, Trustee Area 4

Students first. Integrity always. Opportunity for every learner.

Meet Peter

Peter K. Parker

Peter K. Parker is running for Board Member, Compton Community College District, Trustee Area 4, to bring classroom experience, honest leadership, and a student-centered vision to the Board of Trustees.

Peter has spent his life in and around community colleges—as a student, educator, colleague, and advocate for opportunity. He knows firsthand that community colleges are where students rebuild confidence, prepare for transfer, gain job skills, and discover what is possible.

A proud product of California’s community colleges, Peter earned degrees in liberal arts, human services, comparative literature, and English before serving eighteen years as a full-time English professor at Orange Coast College. There, he taught students from many backgrounds and helped them strengthen the reading, writing, and critical thinking skills that support success in every field. He also served as academic senate president, led study abroad programs in Paris, and worked across campus to build collaboration among faculty, staff, administrators, and students.

Peter is running because Trustee Area 4 deserves a board member who understands instruction, shared governance, curriculum, student services, accountability, and the everyday barriers that can stand between students and completion. With great responsibility comes the duty to listen, act with integrity, and serve the community.

Peter’s Priorities

Put Students First

Every decision should begin with a simple question: will this help students learn, persist, and complete their goals? Peter will focus on practical support for students, including strong instruction, counseling, tutoring, basic needs support, transfer pathways, and career preparation.

Strengthen Instruction & Student Services

Compton College students deserve excellent teaching and services that meet them where they are. Peter will support investments that help students choose a path, stay on track, and finish certificates, degrees, transfer requirements, and workforce goals.

Support Responsible Innovation

Innovation should serve students—not distract from them. Peter supports thoughtful use of technology, modern learning tools, strong online and in-person options, and programs that connect students to transfer, careers, and community needs.

Expand Opportunity & Completion

Community colleges open doors. Peter will advocate for policies and budgets that improve access, reduce unnecessary barriers, and help more students complete their educational plans—whether they are first-time college students, returning adults, parents, working learners, transfer students, or students preparing for new careers.

Lead with Accountability & Transparency

Peter believes public service requires honesty, humility, and responsibility. He will listen to students, families, educators, classified professionals, administrators, and community members—and he will work to make decisions openly and responsibly.

Transparency Statement

Peter’s life includes accountability and recovery. He has past criminal convictions related to addiction, and he believes honesty is part of public service.

Today, Peter has three years in recovery and continues serving recovery communities in Long Beach. He brings that same commitment to responsibility, growth, and service to this campaign.
